How to Migrate From Wix to WordPress Without Losing SEO
Move your site from Wix to WordPress the right way: what transfers, what must be rebuilt, how to keep your URLs and rankings, and what the move costs.

Wix does not offer a full export to WordPress, so a migration means rebuilding your design on WordPress, moving your content page by page and redirecting every old Wix URL to its new address. Blog posts can be imported in bulk through Wix’s RSS feed, but pages, forms, stores and most apps need to be recreated. Done carefully, with a full redirect map, you keep your Google rankings and gain a more flexible, fully owned website.
Quick answer: plan the new site, move blog posts with the RSS importer, rebuild pages and features, copy SEO settings, set 301 redirects for every URL, then point your domain to WordPress.
Why businesses move from Wix to WordPress
- More control. WordPress gives full access to design, code and site structure.
- Ownership. You can move a WordPress site to any host. A Wix site only runs on Wix.
- Plugins. WordPress has tens of thousands of plugins for bookings, memberships, SEO and integrations.
- Ecommerce growth. WooCommerce handles larger catalogues and custom rules more easily.
- SEO flexibility. Full control over URLs, schema and technical settings.

Step-by-step: how to migrate from Wix to WordPress
1. Audit your Wix site
List every page, blog post, product and form, along with its URL. In Google Search Console, export the pages that get clicks so you know which ones matter most.
2. Set up WordPress and hosting
Choose reliable managed hosting and install WordPress on a staging address. Do not change your domain yet.
3. Rebuild the design
Wix designs cannot be exported. Recreate the look in a clean WordPress theme, or use the move to refresh the design. A block-based theme keeps editing simple for your team.
4. Import blog posts
Use your Wix blog RSS feed with the WordPress RSS importer to bring posts across, then check each one. Feeds may not include every post, featured images or formatting, so review titles, images, categories and links by hand.
5. Move pages, images and files
Copy page content into the new templates. Download images from Wix and upload them to WordPress, adding descriptive alt text as you go.
6. Rebuild forms and features
Recreate contact forms, bookings, newsletter sign-ups and other features with WordPress plugins. Test every form sends to the right inbox.
7. Copy SEO settings
Add each page’s title, meta description and headings to an SEO plugin such as Yoast or Rank Math. Keep the same wording on pages that already rank.
8. Build a 301 redirect map
Wix URLs often look different from WordPress URLs. For example, Wix blog posts usually sit under /post/, while WordPress uses its own permalink format. Map every old URL to its new address and add 301 redirects so visitors and Google land in the right place.
9. Launch and point your domain
Update your domain’s DNS to the new host, or transfer the domain away from Wix. Newly registered domains usually cannot be transferred for the first 60 days. Confirm HTTPS works on every page.
10. Check and monitor
Crawl the live site for broken links, submit the new XML sitemap in Google Search Console and watch rankings for 8 to 12 weeks.
How long does a Wix to WordPress migration take?
| Site size | Typical timeline |
|---|---|
| Up to 10 pages | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Up to 30 pages and 50 blog posts | 2 to 3 weeks |
| Wix store with products | 3 to 4 weeks |
How much does it cost to migrate from Wix to WordPress?
Doing it yourself costs hosting plus your time. A professional migration includes the rebuild, content move, redirects and testing. Our Wix to WordPress migration service costs $490 for up to 10 pages, $890 for sites with a blog and up to 30 pages, and from $1,690 for Wix stores.
Common Wix to WordPress mistakes
- Switching the domain before redirects are ready.
- Relying on the RSS import without checking every post.
- Forgetting to rebuild forms and test where they send.
- Losing image alt text and SEO titles.
- Leaving the old Wix site live and indexable, creating duplicates.
From our projects: We moved an Irish corporate catering website from Wix to WordPress as a close visual recreation, giving the team more editorial control and room to grow.
What the research says: Google recommends permanent server-side redirects for every changed URL during a site move, kept in place for at least a year. (Source: Google Search Central on site moves.)
Wix to WordPress questions
Can I export my Wix site to WordPress?
Not completely. Wix has no full-site export. Blog posts can come across through RSS, and product data through CSV, but design, pages, forms and apps must be rebuilt in WordPress.
Will I lose my Google rankings if I move from Wix to WordPress?
Not if you keep your content and set 301 redirects from every old Wix URL to its new WordPress page. Small ranking changes for a few weeks are normal while Google recrawls the site.
Can I keep my domain name?
Yes. You can point your domain’s DNS to your new host or transfer the domain away from Wix. Domains registered in the last 60 days usually cannot be transferred yet.
Can I keep my current Wix design?
You can recreate it closely in WordPress, but it must be rebuilt. Many businesses use the move to improve the design at the same time.
What happens to my Wix store?
Products can be exported as a CSV file and imported into WooCommerce. Orders, customer accounts and apps need extra planning, and checkout and shipping are set up fresh.
How long does the migration take?
A small brochure site takes 1 to 2 weeks. Sites with a blog take 2 to 3 weeks, and stores take 3 to 4 weeks.
